Global maps of cropland extent and change

Image obtained from source website: Link Here.

Data Description:

The dataset represents a globally consistent cropland extent time-series at 30-m spatial resolution. Cropland defined as land used for annual and perennial herbaceous crops for human consumption, forage (including hay), and biofuel. Perennial woody crops, permanent pastures, and shifting cultivation are excluded from the definition. The fallow length is limited to four years for the cropland class.

Potapov uses data from GFSAD then apply machine learning to detect cropland expansion or reduction at 4-year interval using Landsat data. Manual masks to remove map artefacts (for example, cropland overestimation over temperate wetlands and flooded grasslands) were applied to fix overestimation.
